Classic Car Insurance
If you’re a proud owner of a vintage, antique, or collectible car or truck, you need Classic Car Insurance that reflects your vehicle’s uniqueness and value. Standard auto insurance may provide some coverage for a classic car, but generally, it will not cover the full value of the vehicle.
Antique Vehicles Require Special Auto Coverage
Whether you’ve inherited your grandfather’s Corvette or restored a vintage Ford Mustang, we offer classic car insurance to protect your beloved investment.
Your vintage car is your passion, and you probably want to do everything you can to protect your investment and ensure many years of fun and enjoyment with your prized vehicle. Unlike a new vehicle, an antique car appreciates in value, so its insurance differs.
Typically, regular auto insurance is not sufficient to protect such a vehicle against damage or loss. You need specialized antique car insurance to protect your investment.
What makes a car eligible for classic car insurance?
While requirements differ from company to company, most cars need to meet the following criteria in order to qualify for special coverage:
- A classic car (at least 10 years old)
- An antique car (usually at least 25 to 30 years old)
Your antique or classic car must also meet these conditions:
- Limited use: The vehicle should be used on a very limited basis driven 2500 miles per year or less for shows, exhibitions, club activities, parades, and occasional pleasure/leisure (not primary transportation).
- Condition: Generally, the car must be restored, maintained, and preserved in its original condition, or undergoing restoration. Some insurers may decline if the vehicle is not in excellent condition while others require proof that the car is stored properly and that you have another vehicle for routine driving.
- Storage: It’s required that you store your vehicle in a fully enclosed and locked structure. Some carriers will consider other storage types including carports, driveways, parking garages, and car hauling trailers.
What types of vehicles need a classic car or special insurance policy?
- Antique, vintage, or classic cars, usually at least 25 to 30 years old Hotrods and modified vehicles
- Exotic and luxury vehicles
- Muscle cars
- Classic trucks or tractors
- Vintage military vehicles
- Retired commercial vehicles (e.g., fire truck, bus, etc.)
Let the team at Carter Glass Insurance Agency help provide you with coverage for your vintage vehicle.
